Catholic Exorcist Father Carlos Martins Shares the Disturbing Moment That Convinced Him the Devil Is Real
UNITED STATES – A Catholic priest who has performed exorcisms around the world is speaking out about the experiences that convinced him beyond doubt that the devil is real, saying the most terrifying part of his work has nothing to do with physical phenomena and everything to do with the nature of evil itself.
Father Carlos Martins, who hosts a podcast called The Exorcist Files, was an atheist before finding religion and eventually being called to the priesthood. He has since performed exorcisms across multiple countries and shared the moment during his very first exorcism that cemented his belief.
“You Were Supposed to Be One of Us”
During that first exorcism, Father Martins recalled a demon telling him directly: “You were supposed to be one of us.” He said the experience left him with no doubt about what he was dealing with, describing it as confirmation that the devil is real and that none of what followed in his career came as a surprise.
Over the years, Father Martins said he came to understand that demons are highly manipulative and possess a deep understanding of the people they target, using that knowledge to tailor specific temptations to each individual.
He also revealed that a particular demon, one he identified as calling itself “Confusion,” had followed him throughout his life. He was careful to note that demons rarely give their real names, and that even when pressed, they typically offer a false one.
The Mind of the Devil Is More Frightening Than the Physical Signs
Father Martins said that newer exorcists often witness dramatic physical phenomena such as levitating objects, and that these experiences are particularly designed to intimidate less experienced priests. As an exorcist gains experience, he said, those physical displays tend to diminish in frequency because they lose their effect.
What he found far more disturbing, he said, was not what he saw, heard, or felt in the room during exorcisms, but rather the mind behind it all. He described the evil the devil is capable of and the psychological games it plays as far more fearsome than any physical manifestation.
The Devil Has Been Watching You Your Whole Life
Perhaps the most unsettling claim Father Martins made is his belief that the devil has spent a lifetime observing each person, cataloguing their weaknesses, desires, and vulnerabilities in order to craft the most effective possible temptation when the time comes.
He said the devil tailors its approach specifically to the individual, whether that means exploiting an attraction to a certain type of person, a desire for money, a hunger for power, or an appealing opportunity. The precision of that targeting, he said, is what makes the evil genuinely dangerous and deeply personal.
