Man Dies After Jumping Into Lake Michigan at Montrose Harbor, Chicago Police Say
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – A man died Friday afternoon after being pulled from Lake Michigan on the city’s North Side, according to Chicago police. The water rescue unfolded around 4:22 p.m. in the 4500 block of North Simonds Drive at Montrose Harbor in the city’s Uptown neighborhood.
Police said a 42-year-old man jumped into the water and did not resurface. Chicago Police Department’s marine unit responded to the scene and pulled the man from the lake before he was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. His identity has not yet been released.

The incident triggered a significant police response at the harbor during what had been a busy afternoon at the beach, with many people on scene witnessing the emergency unfold in real time.
Chicago resident Steele Goldman, who was at the harbor when the rescue took place, said the moment was difficult to process, adding that he found himself wondering how the man ended up in the water and what circumstances led to him being pulled out.

Safety officials are reminding the public to exercise caution around harbor areas and are encouraging people to wear life jackets near the water. No further details have been released, and the investigation remains active.
