Interview with Mrs. Feit!

We met with Mrs. Feit, our beloved librarian, who has been in this community for many years. We asked her a series of questions to help the community better get to know Mrs. Feit.

We first asked Mrs. Feit why she decided to join the Carle Place staff. She said that she lives in the community and her kids all grew up and went here, so clearly, she loves our school and has lots of CP Frogs pride! You can always catch her at athletic games, plays, and other school events. Through her children going here, she already knew a lot of the teachers. In addition, she also thinks it’s a great school district to work in, and this is her 6th year here.

We all know she’s our librarian, but did you also know that she has a background in nursing? She went to college for nursing and then went to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), saying that she “loved every second of it!”  Once she started having kids, it became harder to juggle the hours as a NICU nurse and always watch her children. She then started doing pediatric cardiology and infertility. Mrs. Feit loved her nursing career, but it was hard to find a balance. Now, she is our lovely librarian and the Medtech co-advisor, which is the Medical Career club at our school!

The library is certainly an integral part of our school. It’s an important place to get work done, to meet up with friends, and to get tutored. Mrs. Feit is always available to lend a helping hand, whether it’s finding information for a research paper, or a book recommendation for a weekend read.

Books Mrs. Feit recommends:

  • I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson
  • The Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline

She shared that she has been working on the new display case, and as we can see, they’re always beautiful! She gets her inspiration from the seasons and anything with books. Mrs. Feit follows the seasons, for example, here is an example of one of the Winter display cases:

She loves being creative and having the opportunity to make a display case for all to see in the lobby definitely is a way for her to express that creativity! Mrs. Feit also set up a beautiful arrangement of books for Valentine’s Day!

Mrs. Feit believes that the most important lesson students can learn from reading is that reading can expose kids to new experiences and walks of life. Her favorite character from a book is Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games, an iconic trailblazing woman, which Mrs. Feit certainly is!

And lastly, her favorite book is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, which is a comfort book for her!
