TV Review: The Astronauts

By Alessandra Canzoneri

The Astronauts is a Nickelodeon show that was released in November 2020. When I first saw the commercials for it, I wasn’t really interested. But then I decided to watch the first episode, which is posted on the Nickelodeon YouTube channel, and I immediately had to know what happened next. The show is about a group of kids who decide to sneak on a rocket to take pictures When the rocket’s AI trapps them inside, Samy (Miya Cech), the main character, jumps into action. Her mother trained her to be an astronaut as a young child, so Samy prepares the rocket for launch. She is joined by Elliott (Bryce Gheisar) , the son of the billionaire owner of the rocket; Martin (Keith L. Williams) and Doria (Kayden Grace Swan), the children of a launch technology assistant; and Will (Ben Daon), the comedic son of a sketchy reporter. The kids end up blasting into outer space to complete a mission like no other. The series has 10 episodes (the first episode has two parts so the second half counts as episode 2. However, episode 2 is not on YouTube.) In each episode, the kids face a new challenge. I love this show. It has excellent writing and suspense that will keep you on your toes. There is only one season, but there are some hints of a possible season 2. Be sure to check out The Astronauts On Demand, Amazon Prime Video, or Nickelodeon apps. (Note: On Demand and Amazon Prime Video costs $15.00 to watch the entire season.) If you’re big on sci fi and adventure, you will definitely love this show!
