The Algorithm of TikTok

You might have heard of the social media app TikTok, and how addicting it can become, but have you heard of the way it keeps you hooked into watching it again and again?

TikTok has a program called the For You Page, which takes all of your past-liked videos and all of our interests and gives you related videos for you to watch.

But it even goes deeper into the viewers’ interests than you think. For example it takes things like how long you are watching each video and if you finish the video you are watching. It also gives you videos related to your location, for example if you live in California, you’ll see videos related to California.

Finally, TikTok likes to call these factors the “indicators of interest” and the likelihood of a user doing things like commenting and liking the videos they see.
