New Year, New You

Making new year’s resolutions is always an amazing way to start off a year. But do you know the history behind it? Or what about why we don’t tend to keep our goals? The history of making these goals was from the Babylonians. They had recorded resolutions over four thousand years ago. They believed that whatever a person did on the first day of the year had significant effects on their lives all year long.

Although it’s well known that New Year’s resolutions do not have much of a success rate. Many choose to skip making goals but almost half of American adults do set at least one resolution in honor of the New Year. A resolution is like a promise to us to improve our lives and to make the New Year a better one for ourselves and others. Even though making a resolution is great we end up stopping by February. We keep making goals every year because for some it’s mostly from tradition and for others it’s a new beginning and a way to start off with a clean slate. Just wanting it is never enough. A common cause is that many people have not thought through their goals for the New Year, and just give up.

Making a goal too hard to accomplish will also end up failing. Most people quickly lose interest and the necessary motivation or sometimes feeling defeated before ever getting started. People who think through what it is they really want to change in their lives, and productively plan for it, have a much better chance of achieving their goals. A New Year creates a better mindset and motivation for the months to come. This year in 2021 we should look back at 2020 and find the positive as we move on.
