Season 2: Emma and Snow in the fairytale realm & Wonderland
Season 2 introduces Captain Hook/Killian Jones (Colin O’Donoghue), Princess Auora (Sarah Bolger) and Mulan (Jamie Chung) as Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) fell through a portal to the fairytale world. Captain Hook’s backstory involved the loss of his girlfriend at the hands of Rumpelstiltskin and he wanted revenge. In another backstory, we found out that the Queen of Hearts was Regina’s mother Cora. Her past as the Miller’s daughter and the hardships she endured shaped her to chasing royalty. She wanted her daughter to marry into royalty so that she could be royal. After Cora and Regina got into a fight, Cora built a kingdom in Wonderland.
Hook and Cora met there. Hook and Cora formed an alliance that lasted a while. It was still intact when Emma and Snow showed up to the fairytale realm. Cora wanted to get back to Storybrooke and so did Hook. Cora wanted to see Regina and Hook wanted his revenge on Rumpel. They worked together to deceive Emma and Snow. In a series of flashbacks, Snow and Charming were able to arrest Regina and planned to execute her. They didn’t follow through with the execution and spared Regina’s life. They banished her instead. Little Red Riding Hood uncovered a dark secret, that she turned into a wolf. In present day, Emma’s ex-boyfriend Neal found out that he was Henry’s father. A major plot twist revealed that Neal was Rumpel’s son. Neal invited his girlfriend Tamara to Storybrooke. We later found out that Tamara was a villain that was using him and working with a guy named Greg to destroy magic. Greg and Tamara kidnapped Regina but Emma, Snow and David saved her. After failing to destroy magic, Greg and Tamara kidnapped Henry and went through a portal to Neverland.
My review:
The second season had great plot twists. The first season was amazing and the second season was even better. The second season reinforced the importance of family. When Snow and Emma were separated from David, Regina, Henry and the others, they did everything to find a way back. They stopped at nothing to get back to their family. Families will always find a way back to each other. Ruby’s past taught me that hiding from you fears will only destroy you. Ruby turned into a wolf at night but she didn’t know that. When she found out that she hurt people while she was a wolf, it terrified her. Her fears started to control her. She refrained from doing certain things because she was scared to hurt people. When she finally acknowledged her fear, she was able to face it and control it. The first step in overcoming your fear is to acknowledge it and face it.
As Regina Mills once said, “When we face our deepest fears, our true courage comes out.”
